Event Description

The Annual Run with the Books is hosted by Friends of the Walkersville Library. The event is scheduled during the festive Walkersville Days celebration. Participants will run on paved pathways that meander through the grounds of Heritage Farm Park. Throughout the race scenic views of the country side are provided. Such as, along a wooded path that follows the Walkersville Southern Railroad tracks. Across a wooden foot bridge which leads to a path nestled beside the babbling waters of Glade Creek that is shaded by a sundry of majestic trees. The path rises and extends onto open ground that leads around the stately historic Harris home and brick-bank barn.

Race organizers arranged for participants to start and finish in the same location where sponsors and volunteers will cheer participants over the finish line. The selected area is conveniently located by a large playground and restrooms.

Professional race services provided by Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club.

A “Run with the Book 5K” T-Shirt will be provided to the first 99 persons who register by 11:59pm on May 1, 2021.  

About Friends of the Walkersville Library

Friends of the Walkersville Library (FOWL) is a non-profit organization comprised of community members, who volunteer their time and talents to create community fundraisers that provide the Walkersville Library with needed financial resources for monthly programs.

On average, each month the Walkersville library designs and produces 100 on-site and 30 off-site free programs. The library staff strives to offer a broad range of quality programs for community members of all ages. Fowl supports their endeavors by creating family fun community-based fund raisers through out the year.

Friends of the Walkersville Library is hosting Run for the Books family fun 5K through Heritage Farm Park. We thank you for your interest and consideration in participating in the event that provides financial assistance to the Walkersville Public Library, to design and create a sundry of free programs and activities throughout the year.

Free t-Shirt 

The first 99 registrations received by 1 May 2021, 11:59pm will receive a free event t-shirt.

 Event Waiver 

Friends of the Walkersville Library RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY, AND PARENTAL CONSENT AGREEMENT.

In consideration of participating in the May 17, 2021 “Run for the Books 5-K” event hosted by Friends of the Walkersville Library, Inc. I represent that I understand the nature of running events and that I and/or my minor child am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activity. I acknowledge that if I and/or my minor child believe event conditions are unsafe, I and/or my minor child will immediately discontinue participation in the Activity. I fully understand that Run events involve risks of serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis and death, which may be caused by my own actions, or inactions, those of others participating in the event, the conditions in which the event takes place, or the negligence of the "releasees" named below; and that there may be other risks either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I and/or my minor child incur as a result of my and/or my minor child's participation in the Activity. 

I hereby release, discharge, and covenant not to sue Friends of the Walkersville Library, Inc., the Town of Walkersville, Burgess and Commissioners, Walkersville Parks Committee, its respective administrators, directors, agents, officers, volunteers, and employees, other participants, any sponsors, advertisers, and, if applicable, owners and lessors of premises on which the Activity takes place, (each considered one of the "RELEASEES" herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the "releasees" or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk I, or anyone on my and/or my minor child's behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I will indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim. 

I give my permission for photographs taken at the event in which my image, or the image of any of my minor children appears, to be used for promotional and/or advertising purposes by Friends of the Walkersville Library, Inc., without compensation to me or my minor children. 

I understand that I may receive emails about this race and other races promoted by the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club.

I have read this RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, AND PARENTAL CONSENT AGREEMENT, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have signed it freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extent allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid the balance, notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect
