This is a new race that will take place at 7:00 on the morning of the Leona Valley Cherry Parade and Festival. Your registration for this event will go toward creating a SMILE on a child’s face and change that child’s life forever, through the charity Smile Train. This will be a great time for the whole family to come out and run for a cause, before enjoy the fun and excitement of this small town, long standing event. After enjoying the festivities, take the time to stop at one of the local Cherry picking farms.
Smile Train is the world’s leading cleft charity. They partner with doctors and hospitals around the world to provide free surgery for children suffering from cleft lip and palate. If you aren’t familiar, clefts are a major problem in developing countries where there are more than one million children who are suffering with unrepaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly. They aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job. Some children are even abandoned and left to die. Children born with clefts are forced into lives of isolation and shame- all because of the way they look. And their clefts usually go untreated because they are poor. Too poor to pay for a simple surgery that costs as little as $250 and takes as little as 45 minutes.
Awards: Custom designed Medal and T-shirts for first 200 participants. Medal for all Cherry Kids Mile participants.
We will start the race At Leona Valley Elementary. The course will be on the road. Basically 1.5 miles up Leona Ave and back down with a turn up a side street. The 5K is an accurately measured course. The Cherry Kids Mile follows the same path of the 5K, but just a half mile up and back. This 5K is a chip timed event.
Water for all participants. There will be a water station on the course.
