As one of the leading experts on Sports Sustainability, we feel it is our responsibility to lead the industry in event and sports sustainability practices. Cumberland Mall and Brookfield Properties share our vision, and together we aim to create a more sustainable future whilst inspiring Atlantans to #SaveWaterDon8UrShoes and lead more active lifestyles.

 

This 5K (3.1 miles) is a run, trot or walk which is open to all levels of physical fitness. The running style encouraged is fun, and includes medals for all finishers 

Outlined are some of the initiatives we’re putting in place to minimize the impact we have on our environment. We can’t do it alone and need your help, so please take a moment to see what you can expect at the event and how you can play your part.

Benefits of Reducing Reusing and Recycling
• Prevents pollution caused by reducing the need to harvest new raw materials (shredded sneaker material)
• Saves energy
• Reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change
• Helps sustain the environment for future generations
• Saves money
• Reduces the amount of waste that will need to be recycled or sent to landfills.
• Allows products to be used to their fullest extent

In the spirit of Earth Day, because we have accumulated lots of leftover medals, shirts, awards and bib numbers, they will be used from previous organized races. We've reduced our waste stream as much as possible by using recycled items needed for the race. 

 

We will have a recycling dumpster for plastic water bottles; bibs are ones left over from previous 5Ks; and participants will receive a recycled (unused) commemorative medal from a previous 5K event.All registered participants will receive an event t-shirt if they want. Register early to guarantee your shirt size preference. Everyone is encouraged to participate in this 5 R's (recycle, reuse, reduce, repurpose and run) activity.

Donation and recycle booths will be available on race day. Consider helping your community and environment by bringing recyclable items to this event. Additionally, there will be an environmental resource fair made up of local environmental agencies for everyone to enjoy.
