The Eighth annual Maine Vets 5K will be held on Sunday, August 16th in Memorial Park in Scarborough; proceeds go to the Maine Veterans' Homes Scarborough Recreation Fund. Participants have raised more than $28,000 in the life of the race. Registration opens at 7:45 am, kids fun run starts at 8:30am and the 5k starts at 9 am. Awards and Raffles begin just after 10 am. 

This certified 5k course is well marked with arrows and mile markers; a water stop is located at the halfway point. 

A free Kids Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. The first 100 children registered will receive a T-shirt and medal. The first 400 people registered for the 5K will receive T-shirts and canvas totes filled with goodies. They will also be registered to win items in our prize raffle.

Awards will be given to the first and second overall male and female runners, along with first- and second-place recognition in 10-year age groups. The event also includes a wheelchair division with first and second place awards, first and second place veteran (male/female), fastest employee (male/female) and first and second place team category.

Day of registration is $25, pre-registering for $20 is strongly encouraged if you'd like a tee and cotton tote bag filled with goodies (included in registration) as these often sell out. 

Packet Pick up is at Maine Veterans' Home, (290 US Route 1, Scarborough) on Friday 1 pm - 7 pm and Saturday 8 am. to Noon. or at the event on Sunday starting at 7:45 a.m. participants may want to allow time to bring their tee and tote bag back to their car; parking is at Scarborough High School, 1/10 of a mile from Memorial Park.  

Refreshments in the park will include bagels from Union Bagel, doughnuts from Holy Donut, bananas, granola bars, yogurt, and homemade chocolate chip cookies by Cathy Koenig. Coffee, water and Gatorade will also be available.

Live music includes: Molly Scott who will perform from 8 am - 8:30 am as well as perform our national anthem  and Maine Marimba Ensemble will provide entertainment after Molly.  

The race was founded to honor Vietnam veteran James O'Brien, also a volunteer at MVH, who passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Event is pet, stroller and wheelchair friendly. Please stay on the left side of the course for the start of the event for everyones safety. 

Maine Veterans’ Homes, a nonprofit organization, seeks cash sponsors and item sponsors; 400 tote bags filled with contributed items will be handed out to runners. Items donated before include hand sanitizer, pens, water bottles and more.

A $2,500 Presenting Sponsor will see their logo featured on T-shirts, totes, bibs, all emails, event board and website. A $1,000 Gold Sponsor may be a tote or finish line sponsor and will be featured on other materials. A $500 Silver Sponsor may be a Kids Run, snack or beverage sponsor. Bronze Sponsors for $250 will be featured on T-shirts, the event board and website.
