Campus Recreation will host the 18th annual Bash the Bluffs 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 25that 9:00am. Every spring the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Campus Recreation Department hosts an on-campus run/walk in honor of Dr. Ed Burke, former professor of Exercise Science and renowned researcher at UCCS. Dr. Burke served as a friend and mentor to many in the Campus Recreation Department and had great influence on the University and the athletic community. While on a mountain bike ride in November 2002, he tragically passed due to a sudden heart attack.
In Remembrance of Dr. Burke and the many veterans of our community, we run together for a common cause. The Ed Burke Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund provides merit-based scholarships for students studying exercise science at UCCS. On race day, April 25th, we expect over 100 race participants, and we hope you can be part of our celebration.
Event details and schedule
The course starts and ends at the Campus Recreation Center, the unique course topography providing scenic views of the UCCS campus, the city of Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and the front range of the Rocky Mountains. This hilly course is mildly challenging for runners, but is stroller and dog friendly for walkers. Aid stations will be provided along the route with water and medical attention if necessary.
Early Packet Pick Up will be Friday April 24th, from 11am-1:00pm and 4:00pm-6:00pm at the front desk of the UCCS Recreation Center. For packet pick up you can park in the free 15 minute parking spots located by the rec center. Just take a right on Mountain Lion Way there is an Ent ATM machine in the rec center parking lot with spots across from it. If there are no available sports in the 15 minute parking, you can park in the Alpine Garage and pay the $2 per hour for visitor parking. Alpine garage has all free parking on the weekends only, so for race day Saturday you will be able to park in the garage for free.
The address for the Rec Center is 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. From Austin Bluffs, you will turn onto Stanton Rd towards the University, then you can park for free in the Alpine garage on the left. The garage has the turf field on top of it. If you are walking from the Alpine garage, you will just need to walk up the hill to the recreation center. There will be signs directing you as well, or you can always call the front desk at 719-255-7515, for directions if you are unable to find it.
