Event Description

While the Olympic games have been postponed for one more year the spirit of the games still live within us. That is why we are presenting a one of a kind virtual race where the fans in the stands can become the star athletes on the field. The Olympic games is a historic set of athletic contests pitting the worlds best athletes against one another. Although the ancient Games were staged in Olympia, Greece, from 776 BC through 393 AD, it took over 1500 years for the Olympics to return. The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896 and have continued to travel from major city in every continent around the world.

Sports are universal, connecting individuals regardless of their race, background, nationality, or intellectual ability. The Special Olympics embodies this universality, demonstrating that human greatness is defined by much more than the limitations of the body. It gives families and communities a chance to come together; provides athletes with the opportunity to feel pride and courage for their accomplishments; and creates an environment where people can change their attitudes about people with intellectual disabilities.

ALL Donations and Registration Fees go directly to The Special Olympics hosted in Greenville South Carolina by the Greenville Rec. 

Greenville County Rec hosts the Special Olympics for these reasons and many others, offering training and competition in 15 different sports. Two full-time Greenville County Rec staffers direct these programs with help from hundreds of community volunteers, making it possible to offer the program without any fees attached.

• 100 Meter Dash (Kids Only)

• 1 Mile Run

• 5k Run

• Olympic Marathon

  • Marathon Runners will receive a Medal WORTHY of their finish! 

How does it work? 

1. Register for this race

2. Get Social (Optional But Fun!)

   1. Join Our Facebook Event Post Photos after you complete your run!

   2. Join Our Facebook Group

   3. Join Our Strava Club & Event

3. NOW RUN THE RACE

   1. This is a virtual race therefore you can run it wherever you want

   2. You have 10 days to complete the distance between August 1st through August 10th

   3. The Run MUST be recorded using a fitness app or GPS Watch (Strava, Nike, Garmin, MapMyRun, etc)

   4. The Fitness App MUST Measure at Least the Following Distances

      1. 100 Meters - Can be run anywhere for the kids. Keep it fun!

      2. 1 Mile - Must be done on a certified track (Four Laps)

      3. 5k Run - Must measure 3.1 on your fitness app or watch

   5. The Distance MUST be covered in one fitness activity!

      1. Walking is awesome! We love walkers

      2. Running is awesome! We love Racers!

   6. Once you complete the distance please complete the Google Form: GOOGLE FORM

4. YOU ARE ALL SET!

   1. Once we tally the results on August 11th we will post them to this page in the Results Tab

   2. Shirts and Medals can be picked up at New Balance Greenville on Woodruff road during business hours. If you would like to have the medal and shirt shipped to you please select the shipping option in the registration process. All items will be shipped after the event on August 11th and will be available for pickup at New Balance Greenville on Tuesday August 12th
