Event Description

From Houston to Cape Canaveral (and Beyond)!

For every kid who wanted to run in an astronaut helmet, for every adult who still does. Run solo to outer space, or form a training squad to run to Cape Canaveral or ride to... Kazakhstan? Earn your flight patch at the launch pad, and badges along the way - as we all combine our miles to run to the Moon.

Per Aspera Ad Astra means "Through Hardships to the Stars".  In the Step Forward series by #wekeeprunning, we celebrate the ability of humanity to come together, work through our hardships, and chase our dreams.   In the first installment of the series "The Space Race,"  we celebrate the monumental effort it took for the US to reach the moon in 1969, an achievement that inspired everything from invention to imagination.

Grab your training certificate (bib) and join your training squad in Space Camp on launch day (Global Running Day, June 3rd), and compete until the anniversary of the first moon landing (5:17pm Central time on July 20th).  Join us as we travel to low-earth orbit, and to the Moon.  Join to get your mission patch (sticker) and astronaut helmet (bandana/face mask).  Compete in challenges to reach to the moon and beyond and get even more swag along the way.

There's three ways to participate, pick one or all three!:

  • On a Training Squad: Team up to Run from Houston to Cape Canaveral, ride to the Baikonur Cosmodrome (where Russia sends astronauts into space), and compete in challenges and briefings set up by Mission Control.
  • On your own:  Run 50 miles to reach the boundaries of "outer space", Run/Ride 254 miles to reach the International Space Station...
  • Together: Track our combined mileage as we shoot for the 238,900 miles to the moon...
  • ... and we'll give you some more challenges and milestones along the way!!

Follow your fellow astronauts and encourage us through our hardships, to the stars.  And to keep things interesting, a portion of proceeds will go to two charities TBA in the STEM field.

Not your cup of Earl Grey?  Coming soon - Steps Forward #2 - The Women's Rights March, to lead up to the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment on August 18th.  March the 346 miles from Seneca Falls to Washington DC!
