Event Description

CLASS OF 2020:

Unfortunately, there is no way we can hold the marathon on our track or any other part of the community.  Believe me, we tried.  Next year, you will get a special invite and get a special start for the 15th Mott Marathon in 2021.  What we have left is an opportunity to do something never done before and model what is the latest craze in running-Virtual races.  Currently there is a virtual race across New York State with over 10,000 people participating.

What is a Virtual Event?  You run on your own and report the result back to me.  The actual marathon was to take place on Thursday, June 11.  During the week of June 8-June 12, you will be asked to run the race of your choice on the course of your choice-treadmills included.  The distances are as follows:

5k (3.1 miles)
10k (6.2 miles)
15k Thundermaker (9,3 miles)
Half-Marathon (13.1 miles)
Full Marathon (26.2 miles)

There will also be a separate category for those who want to run/walk the marathon distance over the course of the five day period.  Walking is permitted and encouraged for all distances as this is not a race this year.

What I do not want is for you to organize unofficial marathons and group up together.  I also do not want you running 26.2 miles from home and needing a ride back!  Lastly, I do not want you running on major roads or highways.  I want you to be safe. For example:

 -And you thought running 105 laps on the track was a lot!  Run around your block or even in your backyard!.

When you run, share a selfie wearing your marathon shirt and running mask you will get.  Proof will be required by taking a picture of your watch, Fitbit or cell phone if you run the full marathon.  As for the rest, it will be on an honor system.  

This race has been about community and this time the community is supporting you!  You will receive your medals when you receive your diploma at graduation.  There are 141 seniors in the CVA Class of 2020.  Let's get as many of you involved!  Can you imagine if you could run 2,020 miles together as a class?  It is possible!
