Event Description

Even though the annual Tuckahoe vs. Taylor Spring Showdown game is canceled, it doesn't mean our schools have to stop having fun. So instead of a basketball game let's all run a 5k to help us stay active and support APS community members during the closure. Every registration fee paid for our virtual Tuckahoe vs. Taylor 5K supports students and families at our partner schools: Abingdon, Barcroft, Carlin Springs and Hoffman-Boston Elementary Schools. From June 6 to June 12 you can log on and track a 5K and score a point for your school. In place of the always memorable 5th grade half-time free throw contest the 5th grader with the fastest 5K time at both Taylor and Tuckahoe will be crowned as their school winner and be recognized with a prize.

While the funds raised through our Tuckahoe vs. Taylor Spring Showdown Virtual 5k will directly benefit families at schools in Arlington County, walkers and runners from any location are welcome - and encouraged - to participate.

During the time of social distancing, it is important that parents encourage children to stay active! A Virtual Race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog or walk on the grass, on the sidewalk, on the trail, on the treadmill or on the track. Please be sure to abide by standard social distancing protocol while completing your course. Give other walkers/joggers a wide berth (6 feet minimum), and, if possible, look for a route that does not typically have heavy foot traffic.
