Event Description

We are starting a monthly virtual Race to Raise event to support charities and local organizations in times of need. Since we are not able to all run together in the physical form, we are going to have a monthly 5k from a local of your choice. Anywhere/anytime during the weekend of August 7th-9th. Please select your charity of choice out of the three we have selected below. We will distribute to your donation of choice after race completion!

1. Gyrl Wonder

Gyrl Wonder is a professional pipeline 501c3 initiative giving rise to ambitious young women of color between the ages of 17 - 22. Their mission is to empower gyrls through social impact, career exploration and objective alignment. They provide access and resources necessary for them to successfully enter a competitive workforce while teaching them how to leverage these tools to reach their personal and professional goals.

Gyrl Wonder equips the young woman who has found her passion with the toolkit necessary to turn her interests into a career. They provide support through career exploration for the young woman who struggles to find a career aligned to her skillset. Both young women receive guidance and access to resources that help propel them into the profession of their choice.

Through their programming, community service, mentorship, and flagship initiative, the Gyrl Wonder Leadership Academy, they introduce the young gyrls to purpose exploration that is aligned with their passions and skillsets. They offer internship placement for college girls, career development for recent college graduates and resume and interview preparedness workshops to all!

2. United Way of the Columbia-Willamette

United way is committed to equity in their work -- from interacting with the public, to engaging with donors, to allocating resources across the community. They serve the most disadvantaged and disenfranchised groups in the region effectively while focusing on race and ethnicity as this is critical to ending the historical and social inequities that continue to exist in the region. They are working hard to create a future where kids in the region are free from instability and worry so they can be free to play and discover, free to learn and grow.

Their mission: Improve lives, strengthen communities and advance equity by mobilizing the caring power of people across our metro area.

3. Outdoor Afro

Outdoor Afro has become the nation’s leading, cutting edge network that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature. They help people take better care of themselves, their communities, and their planet! Outdoor Afro is a national non-profit organization with leadership networks around the country. With nearly 80 leaders in 30 states from around the country, they connect thousands of people to outdoor experiences, who are changing the face of conservation. Supporting them helps lead the way for inclusion in outdoor recreation, nature, and conservation for all!

Thank you so much for supporting us on our mission to give back to our community during this difficult time!

Happy Running!
