Event Description

Just 50 miles south of Boston, the Buzzards Bay Swim features a one-of-a-kind scenic point-to-point course across outer New Bedford Harbor. Assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard and a local safety patrol, swimmers navigate 1.2 miles through the harbor and channel, passing by the iconic Butler Flats Lighthouse and the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier, one of the largest stone structures on the East Coast. At the thrilling finish, swimmers are welcomed with a beach party featuring a live steel drum band, pancakes cooked to order, gourmet coffee, free massages, and local beer!

The Buzzards Bay Swim is a fundraiser for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a nonprofit that works to protect clean water in our region. $25 registration fee and $150 fundraising minimum (pay-or-raise) includes parking, free shuttle to the start line, bag check, chip timing, snacks, breakfast, beverages, event t-shirt, water bottle, swag bag, live music, post-race massage, awards, prizes, and a hefty bronze finisher's medal custom made by local artisans. Qualifications apply. Special rates available for youth teams.

Seeing is believing, come try out this awesome and energetic community event!

“My friend and I were first time swimmers and we had a blast. We felt so encouraged and welcome by every single person that worked at the event. We will definitely be back next year!  - Shannon S.
