Event Description

Join us for the first annual Blind As A Bat 10K! The event will be held on Saturday October 31, 2020 from 12:01 am until 11:59pm (if you dare!) at a location of your choice, "dreadmills" included! Complete the event & log your results, before the spooky Halloween spirits fall asleep for another year!

This race has been created as a fundraiser for Eye Got This, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the awareness, empowerment and safety of blind and visually impaired athletes. Eye Got This seeks to encourage and create accessibility for visually impaired athletes and blind athletes to continue to enjoy the athletics they love. To provide each athlete with the confidence to tell themselves, “Eye got this!” In a world of social distancing, many visually impaired and blind athletes have experienced increased challenges to keep healthy and fit through running.  100% of the proceeds raised through this race will be directly invested into enhancing programming, empowering visually impaired and blind athletes, creating safe guide connections and helping to generate overall awareness for visually impaired and blind athletes.

There are two sign-up options available:

Option 1: A flat fee for race registration only.

Option 2: Access to join a "Virtual Run Group" to connect with other runners & help keep you motivated during your training. This option includes an 8-week training plan and coaching by an RRCA certified Run Coach, to help you cross the 10K finish line strong! In addition, you will have access to "guest speakers" providing information to help enhance your running performance (ex. Nutrition, Strength Training, Sports Therapies, etc.). Week 1 of training begins Sunday September 6th, however you can sign-up for this option any time before race day.

Regardless of which option you choose, we encourage you to complete the race in your most creative Halloween costume for extra virtual bonus points. Don't forget to share your pictures using our hashtag #BlindAsABat10K Finisher t-shirts will be mailed once race results are posted!

And for an extra challenge, try the FREE "Masked Mile" challenge. Run (or walk) 0.1 to 1-mile in the shoes of a visually impaired athlete by wearing a mask/blindfold. Use the hashtag #MaskedMileChallenge to share your experience and help bring awareness for visually impaired and blind athletes.

*Please note* this challenge does come with increase risk so if you do attempt to try this, please find a safe place to complete the challenge. A treadmill or track with a guided runner is our recommendation!
