Event Description
Welcome to the Ice Badgers Nordic Ski Team! Ice Badgers Nordic Ski team includes a weekly small group practice with our experienced coaches, and an optional opportunity to use learned skills at three races throughout the season. It's small group and one on one instruction focused on skill improvement. We use the races as goals for athletes with an emphasis on finishing. We will take up to 40 kids on Ice Badgers for the 21/22 winter. First come, first serve. Scholarships available based on need, please email me privately.
COACHES
- Coach Orion - head skate and classic coach, mostly works with the 8-12th graders
- Coach Abby - head coach, mostly works with middle school and lady badgers
- Coach Jenna - head coach, registration, mostly with the jr badgers, in charge of games and snacks
- Coach Jesse - head coach, most works with middle school and rabbit for older badgers
- Coach Shaun - coordinator, race day organizer, logistics organizer, and captain of fun
- Coach Emma - long time skier and pro cyclist
- Dawson Knopp - MTCX wax tech and former APU skier
PRACTICES
WHERE: Location: Lubrecht Experimental Forest, 38689 MT-200, Greenough, MT 59823 is our main area. We also will practice at different locations based on snow cover.
WHEN: Practices are held Wednesdays 1/5 - 3/2 (9 weeks). In the case of no snow, we will have dry land training.
WHO: Kids ages 7-18. Younger children (Ice Badger Jr) can register for the team after pre-approval. Prior skate/classic ski experience required. Kids must be able to ski for 1 mile within an hour period. 2 race minimum (volunteer or race).
INCLUDED: Once a week practices with a focus on technique, small groups and 1:1 skills training and advice, team ski suit season rental, team fleece, team ski hat, snack and treats at practice, race support for local races, free registration to Ice Badger Loppet, and Dance Invitational, race day wax job
NOT INCLUDED: Please bring water bottle to leave at the base (and snack if needed). Transportation to and from practice or races.
PACKING LIST: A solid pair of skate skis, poles, boots. A solid pair of classic skis, poles, boots. New full ski set ups are available to order at MTCX, junior skate packages start at $330. Season rentals are also available for the season ($150 for the season), email Montanacyclocross@gmail.com to find out more. Warm gloves, warm up jacket and pants, ski leggings or tights, hat or headband, water-bottle, snack.
