Event Description

The James Ransom Memorial 5K/50K is designed to be a community event to recognize the positive impact physical activity can have on mental health. Conceived to honor the life of James Ransom, a thirteen year old Ladera Ranch resident who died by suicide in 2016, this 5K/50K recognizes that one in four families will struggle with mental health issues and our desire to make a difference. It is our mission to ensure that there are resources available to our children today so that they can access and navigate mental and behavioral health issues. The James Henry Ransom Foundation has been a lead advocate of and donor to local adolescent mental and behavioral health programs in our community. It is our goal to bring a teen center to our community to provide both a social space and a place to obtain resources for our youth. The James Henry Ransom Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation.

This first time Virtual event will allow you to still enjoy a family fun tradition, but with "Social Distancing" in mind. You will be able to still run the traditional race course as well as the Ladera Trails starting on October 24th.  You will have until November 30 to complete either the 5K or the 50K so you can socially distance.  Also the run will be on the sidewalks and trails instead of the road.  Keep in mind during the run that when crossing streets or intersections all traffic laws are in effect and please be careful.  Our newest addition to this year's event will be a 50K challenge for runners and walkers to complete through the month of November.  This will allow you to challenge yourself and run, walk, or swim any course you wish and any distance each day.  Remember to share your run with us on social media and post your results to see how you did over the rest of the running community.
