Event Description

Welcome to the sixth annual Sparky's Turkey Trot!  Thanks to the tremendous support of our Dog Scout members, friends and family, Sparky's Turkey Trot continues as an annual event.  This virtual race is a fundraiser for Dog Scouts of America, a national 501(c)3 non-profit. Anyone can participate in this fun event. This is great family and Scouting fun and you do not need to be a member of Dog Scouts to participate (although your miles may be counted towards future **DSA badges and titles if you're walking with your dog and are fulfilling the title/badge requirements).

Sparky's Turkey Trot is a virtual race that you can walk or run on your own time, during the week of Thanksgiving, and you will receive a medal for supporting this great cause! Run or walk a 5K, 10K or 1 Miler and be rewarded with the Dog Scouts of America Sparky's Turkey Trot race medal.

The FIVE Mile Gobbler is a virtual five mile run or walk that you complete on your own time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and you will be rewarded with a special Mile Gobbler PATCH to show off your hard work. This virtual race is completed "on your honor", there is no need to send in a mileage log to receive the patch.

You can receive a $10 discount by registering for both when you select the "Trot & Gobble (both)" option.

Medals and patches will be mailed out after the race. The race organizer (a Dog Scout volunteer) typically receives the medals in late December. The medals will be packed up and mailed after they are received. All proceeds from these events will go to furthering the mission of Dog Scouts of America. During the setup of this race, we had to choose a location for the race to be based, so we chose Michigan Dog Scout Camp, the happiest place on earth, but this race can be run from anywhere!

A virtual run is a fundraiser to bring people from all over the world to run together on their own time, in their own towns during the week of Thanksgiving.  You can run or walk at lunchtime or after work, on the weekend, on even on Thanksgiving day.  You might find a trail, a park, a dog-friendly beach, head downtown, or just around your neighborhood.

We'd love to share a picture of you and your dog(s) and/or your team participating in this race, please email your pictures with relevant names, dog breeds, (troop affiliation and/or team name if applicable) and locations to our newsletter editor at thescoop@dogscouts.org

**If you're interested in earning DSA Trails Titles and/or Merit badges, be sure to read the Trail Dog Titles Guidebook and the Trails & Outdoors Badges information available on our website: dogscouts.org.
