Event Description

The Ugly Sweater 5K will take place this year on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 and will be hosted by the Rotary Club of La Crosse—After Hours (RAH)!

We have been working hard to make our 2020 Ugly Sweater 5k a family-friendly and festive event despite COVID-19 circumstances. Our number one priority is the safety of participants and volunteers. This year’s race will look a little different with a staggered start… and because our friends in the community need safe activities to look forward to, we will light the trail for an additional night for anyone to run or walk through and enjoy! Our award ceremony may be virtual, but don’t worry, there will still be plenty of ugly sweaters, holiday lights and cheer!

Your generosity and continued support of our club’s efforts have allowed us to make an impact both locally and internationally. RAH was an integral part of the Food Drive Friday’s which collected over 68k pounds of food and raised nearly $310k for The Hunger Task Force, ensuring our local food pantries are stocked in the months to come. We donated $1.7k to The Parenting Place to purchase diapers and wipes for families in need. We are partnering with The Good Fight to purchase a van to transport at-risk youth to the community center and provide a safe and nurturing environment in hopes of them becoming productive members of society. We look forward to growing this partnership and being mentors to the kids. Most recently, RAH packed 150 backpacks full of school supplies for local kids in need. Our club also continues volunteer work in Upper Hixon, doing trail and prairie maintenance in one of our city’s most valuable treasures.

Internationally, we supported Razia’s Ray of Hope Foundation by contributing to the purchase of a bus to safely transport young girls to school in Afghanistan so they can receive the education that their mothers weren’t afforded. We continue to bring clean water to children in Valladolid, Mexico with the instillation of water filters in schools. Although this year has been far from normal, we remain committed to serving others and supporting our community through any challenge we face.
