Event Description
Are you looking to do something fun with your neighbors, start a new tradition, donate some food, and raise some money at the same time? Either way this event is for all runners/walkers, all experience levels, all ages and will be an opportunity for you to compete with your friends, neighbors and total strangers in a seasonally appropriate manner. Thanksgiving is not cancelled and neither should a Turkey Trot. So...before you dig into your food, watch football, and fall into a food coma, join us for the First Annual RRCC Virtual Turkey Trot 2020. Come on out and wear your turkey hats, bring the kids, donate some food, and let's raise some money for the Rock Ridge Community Club. After Turkey Day, all participants are welcome to join us for a socially distant awards ceremony/celebration on the Beach at Rock Ridge.
How does it work?
- Run/walk your own Turkey Trot in Rock Ridge anytime during the 2 weeks before Turkey Day and upload your running time and contact information here. Make it fun, dress up, show us your pics; upload to the RRCC Facebook Page or Instagram using the hashtag #rrccturkeytrot . That's right, you don't even HAVE to run on Thanksgiving this year. Run anytime and from anywhere between November 12th and Thanksgiving Day.
- Capture your time and submit it to the Results Page (if you would like to be eligible for prizes)
- Drop off canned food donations to the Rock Ridge Clubhouse, which will be collected and provided to local food pantries
- Join us for an after turkey day celebration with a bonfire on the beach on Sunday 11/29
Where do I run/walk?
- For the 5K, as long as you run/walk 3.1 miles, your entry and time will be accepted but we strongly encourage you to try this local Rock Ridge 5K Course which starts at the clubhouse. Since roads will not be closed for this virtual event, please exercise caution when running/walking
- For the kids fun run, 1 lap around Rock Ridge Lake is preferred - (or any 1 mile loop/course/etc.)
- If you are not in the Denville, NJ area feel free to search the USATF Course Database for a course in your local area! Simply add your state and 5K or 1M distance to the search form. All certified to the length required.
- We will be having practice runs leading up to the turkey trot; details will be posted on our Facebook page. In addition, feel free to join our Ridge Runners Strava Group to track your runs and performance against other group members.
When do I run/walk?
- Anytime between November 12th and 26th, just make sure to capture your time (using a stopwatch, GPS watch, abacus, etc.) and enter your time on the website to be considered for one of the many exciting prizes.
What if I have kids who want to participate but they can't run 3 miles?
- Sign them up for the Fun run which is a ~ 1 mile loop. All kids who register will be eligible for a prize and will receive a goody bag giveaway.
What if I am an adult who is not interesting in running 3.1 miles but I am looking to walk with my friends and start a new tradition?
- Feel free to sign up for Kid's Fun Run/Leisure walk and please still join us for the bonfire event on November 29th. After all this is about spending time with friends and enjoying the beauty that our community has to offer.
Will there be any awards or prizes giveaway?
- We are planning on having a bonfire celebration/awards ceremony at the Rock Ridge Beach on Sunday November 29th (Specifics will be posted on the Race Page and emailed to all entrants)
- Medals and awards will be provided to age group winners as well as top overall male/female runners
- Registration giveaways will be handed out at this event and we will make accommodations for anyone who is unable to attend in person
How can we help others during the Turkey Holiday Season?
- Since food is a huge component to your Thanksgiving Day we will also be accepting food donations (inside the clubhouse - located at 53 Entrance Way Denville, NJ) which will be donated to the Interfaith Food Pantry.
