Run or Walk off the feast from Thanksgiving this year with our 2nd Annual St. Michael's School TURKEY TROT Run/Walk 5k! There is a 1-mile Run/Walk for kids 10 and under and adults as well! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held outside and socially distanced as best as possible. We will also allow for a virtual component for those not comfortable participating in person. The funds we raise this year will directly benefit St. Michael's School and assist in funding a new playground for the children at the school!
Swag bag will available the morning of the race. Registration includes a t-shirt and participation medal. Winners will be announced by 7:00pm, November 27th on the St. Michael's School website and Facebook page. Winners medals will be mailed or sent to school if applicable.
As you prepare and run your race, tag us on your favorite social media platform and use the hashtag #SMSTURKEYTROT5K.
To get there:
Take Highway 5 south. As you approach St. Mary’s College of Maryland you will see a sign welcoming you to Historic St. Mary’s City, then the St. Mary’s River on the right. After the campus, turn right onto Rosecroft Road, then take the first right onto Hogaboom Lane and continue to the big blue Visitor Center.
Race check in, package pick up and registration will all be set up right in front of the Visitor Center from 7:15 to 7:45. The race start is located on the gravel road just past the Visitor Center. We will start at 8 am sharp. Course clearance is at 9:30. This means that at 9:30 all finish line and support services will begin to pack up and move out. Historic St. Mary's City opens to the public at 10 am. You are welcome to stay as long as you like, but the race materials must be removed.
This is a trail race, in some places single footpath wide. For this reason we do not recommend strollers, leased pets are welcome. Please be courteous to each other on the trail. Move to the right to allow other runners to pass if necessary. Be careful of your footing. The trail has been marked with pink and orange flags and some roots have been painted blue, but you will still need to be mindful of rocks, roots and holes in the path. In an effort to be more green, we are not leaf-blowing the trail again this year. There are 2 trees down that you will need to go around or over. Again, strollers are discouraged. I’m not saying you can’t get a stroller over this stuff - but it won’t be easy.
NUMBERS VISIBLE ON THE FRONT - not on the dog, or your butt/back, or in the car, or on the shirt that you took off. We need to be able to clearly see your number as you approach the finish line.
There will not be a water station at the halfway point. If you need water, please carry your own bottle or Camelbak.
Post race refreshments will be located in the registration area. Restroom facilities are limited and do not open until 7:30.
We do not have a rain date for this event. We will race rain or shine!!
