Put Your Boots On the Ground at
Saddleback College's S.A.M.E. VETS 5K!
The Saddleback College Veterans Program and Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.M.E.) have partnered together to bring you the Second Annual Saddleback College Veteran's 5K. Spend this Veteran's Day creating memories with your family while supporting student veterans in your community. Run fast, jog, trot, walk or stroll on a scenic course* around Saddleback campus. Plenty of parking, lots of refreshments, and plenty of family fun. It is the picture perfect way to start celebrating Veteran's Day! And don’t be afraid to wear your red, white, and blue or military-themed gear!
All proceeds used for emergency grants and academic support for Saddleback veterans!
5k participants will receive “Dog Tag” medal and a short-sleeve event tee!
Kids Ruck Runners will receive a back pack and "Dog tag" medal!

WHERE: Saddleback College, 28000 Marguerite Pkwy, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. Use main entrance on Avery Pkwy.
Race will start in the center of campus in the Quad aea and there is plenty of parking in lots 9,9A, 9b off Marguerite and left of College Drive West..
5K Starts at 7:30 AM
Age: All ages
Included: Event shirt*, RFID timer chip bib, “dog tag” finisher medal*, water, refreshments, and more.
* Register by November 1st to guarantee event shirt and dog tag finisher medal. Supplies are limited and
are first come first serve.
Fees: $35 General Admission

$25 for veterans, active-duty military, and Saddleback students.
Timing: All participants will receive professionally timed results. We will be utilizing the RFID timing chip, which is attached to your bib. Your bib must be visible and worn at all times to receive a final time. Your timing tag will activate and start once you cross the start line.
Description: The 5K is a fun event for families and individuals to enjoy. Walk, jog or run through the scenic course through Saddleback College and Veterans Memorial. Professional timing, results and age division awards for those "in it to win it". Families can bring strollers, but agree to use at own risk. Walkers and Strollers, please position at the back of the pack at the start.
* Course is accessible to adaptive athletes, wheelchairs, and strollers.
KID’S RUCK RUN:
Starts at 9:00 AM
Age: 12 and under
Included: Kids Drawstring Backpack, “dog tag” medal, water, refreshments, and more.
Fees: $25 for children ages 3-12.
Description:
We have several races for kids of all ages. The youngest divisions will start first at 9:00 am and all other races will follow. Each kids race is staged on a course that goes out and back. Kids can turn around at anytime without penalty. Staff will be provided along the route to help direct the kids.
The Kids Ruck Run is a fun military themed event that allows children ages 5-12 with a chance to gear up with a ruck. The ruck, commonly known as a rucksack, is a specialized backpack used by military personnel is an essential piece of gear has a long tradition of use in the military.
The course will be an easy out and back finish. One parent per child can buddy up and run with them without registering themselves but the parent will not receive any race bib or swag. All registered kids will receive a drawstring backpack, and dog tag finisher medal. Rucks are limited on a 1st come basis to wear on race day. Check in early.
Kids Divisions:
3 yrs. and under. Distance: 50 yds. Starts: 9:00 am
4-6 yrs. Distance: 100 yds. Starts: 9:10 am
7-9 yrs. Distance: 1/4 mile Starts: 9:15 am
10-12 yrs. Distance: 1/2 mile Starts: 9:20 am
Awards
Award medals will be presented to the top 3 Male/Female finishers in the following age divisions:
Divisions: 3-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39 40-44, 45-49, 50-54,55-59 60-64, 65-69, 70-over.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to mail awards to winners, so be sure to pick up awards at the award ceremony!

Location: Saddleback College in the center of campus in the Quad area in front of cafeteria entrance. Park in lots 9,9a,9b for closest location. Enter off Marguerite and take a left on College Drive West. Closest Pkg lots are located before Medical Center Road
Note: (REVISED) If you can't attend, friends and family cannot pick up your packet unless you are the parent or guardian of a registered minor participating. Each registrant and parent/guardian of minor participants must sign a waiver before the race. Waivers are required for all participants (registered or not registered participants, i.e. children in strollers), you will not be able to participate, there will be no exceptions. We are sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.
You have two options to sign and pick up your packet.
1. Saddleback College Packet Pick-Up (2800 Marguerite Pkwy, Mission Viejo, CA 92691)
2-6pm Center of campus in the Quad area. Closest Parking lots are 9a,9,9b off Marguerite take a left on College Drive West.
2. Race Day (Saddleback College 28000 Marguerite Pkwy, Mission Viejo, CA 92691)
between 6:00 AM and 7:15 AM Please Arrive early!
Late Registration:
If you are signing up late at Packet Pick up or Race day. Please be prepared to pay by CASH only.
Runners who miss online registration can register in person at packet pick up on Saturday, Nov 9 from 2 to 6 PM at at Saddleback College in center of campus Quad area. You can also register on Race day, Saturday Nov 10, 2018 between 6:00am-7:15 AM at Saddleback College.
Please note there will be a fee increase for the day of the race, the amount is as follows. Please arrive early to register (6:00-7:45 AM) and please be prepared to pay by CASH only. T-shirts sizes are only guaranteed to participants who register early.

FAQ's
I want to register for the 5K, but I missed online registration. Can I still register?
Yes, runners who miss online registration can register in person at packet pick up on Friday, in the center of campus at the Quad area from 2-6pm or Saturday race morning , from 6am-7:15 at Saddleback College, same location. Park in lots 9,9a,9b off Marguerite entrance, take a left of College Drive West.
Please note there will be a fee increase for the day of the race, the amount is $40 General Admission and $25 Kids Admission. Please arrive early to register (6:00-7:45 AM) and please be prepared to pay by CASH only. Medals and T-shirts sizes are only guaranteed to participants who register early!
Is this course accessible for adaptive athletes, strollers, or wheelchairs?
Yes. Come one, come all! We want to ensure anyone can come support and participate in this family friendly event.
I am not a veteran, active military, or a Saddleback student. Can I still participate?
Yes! Absolutely, anyone and everyone of all ages are invited to participate. No military or Saddleback College affiliation needed to join in the fun.
I want to volunteer. How can I sign-up?

Can I bring my dog(s)?
We certainly wish they could, but pets are not permitted at the event. The exception is if your pup is a registered Service Dog, or an ESA (Emotional Support Animal), they are welcome to attend, but will be restricted to the Expo area outside the Stadium. Unfortunately they will not be allowed in the Stadium or on the course during the event. We do ask you to bring proof of registration for each registered pup you bring along.
