Event Description

Now more than ever cancer patients need our help to fight the battle against cancer both from a medical and financial viewpoint, so they are not left with debt and bankruptcy in their life that they have fought so hard to win.

With the state of the world as it is now, a lot of us are struggling just to get by with high unemployment rates, overall panic and the threat of the coronavirus looming over us. While these threats are very real and have affected all of us, we must still keep in mind that there have been people struggling before the pandemic and who are being hit even harder with it. With an estimated 1.8 million new cancer cases diagnosed and 606,520 cancer deaths in 2020, cancer is one of the leading causes of deaths in Americans, second only to heart disease.

The effects for those suffering from cancer is compounded not only from a health standpoint, but also from a financial standpoint. Those suffering from cancer are more at-risk from the coronavirus due to their compromised immune system. Along with compromising the immune system, cancer also compromises the financial stability of the patient as well as their loved ones. With an average cost of treatment running around $150,000 and almost $ 4 Billion spent out of pocket for cancer treatments just in 2014, cancer patients are 2 ½ times more likely to declare bankruptcy as healthy people. This problem is only made worse when we consider all the indirect costs of cancer such as job loss, lost work hours income, lodging near treatment, transportation to medical appointments and pharmacy, childcare, mental health services and so on. Even if patients are fortunate enough to win the battle against cancer, they may end up losing the financial battle.

Gentle Wellness Center is an integrative and holistic treatment center located in Fairfax, VA where we provide integrative and alternative cancer treatment services such as High Dose Vitamin C IV Therapy and IPT cancer therapy to patients who do not want to go the traditional chemotherapy route or who have felt that traditional chemotherapy route has failed them. We have the best interest of our patients at heart so our new year resolution in 2021 is to raise money for the treatments of our patients. Our goal is to keep our community healthy and to help people achieve their fitness goals for the coming year.

With this in mind, and to break the monotony of working from home, it is our pleasure to announce the first annual virtual “Gentle Wellness Center Run for Cancer”. This event will be divided into three separate events which you can participate in based on your fitness level. 

All proceeds generated from the event will be used towards the treatment of cancer patients at our facility on a need basis.
