Event Description

The Bald Mountain Triathlon is an off-road race that will take place in the scenic and natural Clearwater Mountains near Pierce, ID.  The event will begin a with a 300 yard swim in Deer Creek Reservoir, fed by a a mountain stream. Participants will then ride 12.5 miles up a trail, down a cleared railroad grade through the forest, then gravel roads to the base of Bald Mountain. From the base of the ski area we will run 2.2 miles around the ski area perimeter and finish at the ski lodge. There will be 2 transition areas. It will be a short, but difficult course and the most beautiful race you will ever participate in.

Safety:

No roads are closed for this race, however there will be traffic control at the one major intersection of Hwy 11. It is your responsibility to yield to traffic. The good news is most of this race is on a trail and traffic is minimal in the areas where you will be sharing the road.

Dependent upon the current burden of COVID-19 in our communities we may have precautions including but not limited to the following:

For participants a mask to be worn while setting up and in transition area when not competing. Any time you could come into within 6 feet of another person (with exception of competitive time), please wear a mask. Masks to be replaced after a [reasonable] period of cool down.

All fans, family to be wearing masks when within (or the possibility of someone coming within) 6 feet of another person who is not an immediate household member.

 

Rules:

This is not a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event and you do not need to have a USAT card to participate, however we will be abiding by USAT rules. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Triathlon/About/Multisport/Competitive-Rules

We discourage the use of wetsuits for this short swim, however if water temperature is less than 84 degrees they are allowable.

No lifejackets allowed.

Helmets required for the duration of the bike ride.

 

Logistics:

You can check in on Saturday from 3-7pm at the Bald Mountain Ski Lodge or Sunday morning at the race start from 6-7am, at Deer Creek Reservoir. We will have an athlete briefing at 6pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday.

There will be 2 separate transition areas, T1 is in the Deer Creek Reservoir parking lot and T2 is at the base of the Bald Mountain Ski Hill, one mile up the driveway.

We will provide a shuttle back to your vehicle at T1 if needed.

Please have a bag to place all of your gear from T1 into, label it with your name and number (flagging and permanent marker will be provided) and place all of your items from T1 into this. We will transport it to the finish line (or T2 if you prefer) while you are on the bike route.

You can set up T2 and get yourself back to the start, or you can give us your bag with T2 (labeled with name and number) and we will place it at T2 for you. When done at transition 1 please place all swim gear in bag and we will bring to finish.

There will be food provided at the end, free for participants and available for a fee to fans.
