Event Description
Entry Limit:
To ensure the best possible participant experience, the half marathon race field is limited to 7,250 and the 5K is limited to 1,000.
Wave Start:
We’ll be using a multi wave start. Your bib number will have your wave number on it. Everyone, regardless of his or her indicated wave number, must be at the race start line when the gun goes off at 7:30 a.m.
Course Time Limit:
There is a 3-hour time limit (based on chip time) for finishing this event. All participants must be able to maintain a 13:44-minute-mile pace or faster throughout the event.
The Course:
Point-to-point course, starting at the Del Mar Racetrack and finishing at the La Jolla Cove. The course has several major hills as well as sections on streets that carry normal vehicular traffic. In those sections, there will be a coned lane. You must stay within the coned lane. Water stations will be located at approximately every mile along the course. Please note: Due to the challenges of this course, wheelchairs and handcycles and prohibited.
Bib Number and T-shirt Pickup:
You must pick up your bib number and T-shirt at the La Jolla Half Marathon Packet Pick-up Event. Be prepared to show your photo ID to claim your bib number. Location and times TBD. You may designate a person to pick up your bib number but they must present a copy of your picture ID – no exceptions.
Race Day Bib Number Pickup:
If you’re unable to attend the La Jolla Half Marathon Packet Pick-up Event and need to pick up your bib number on race day, select the Race Day Bib Number Pickup Convenience option during your registration ($20.00). Your bib number will be available for pick up from the start on race day between 6 and 7 a.m. T-shirt pick up on race day will be located at the finish line in La Jolla Cove.
Timing and Results:
We use Chronotrack timing to score our event. Official results and age group awards will be based on your chip time (net time on the course). Course record cash awards will be based on gun time. All runners must attach the timing device as instructed or they will not be timed and ineligible for any award. Results will be posted in the finish line area and also after the race at www.lajollahalfmarathon.com.
