Program Summary – Flying Feet, coordinated by coach Dave Griffin, is a running program for runners of all paces and experience levels. Griffin has over 45 years of running experience and over 17 years of experience coaching runners. Flying Feet has two primary areas of focus: (1) To bring the training principles used by elite runners to the local running community. Though some modification is needed for most runners, the principles of running success are universal, and local runners can gain significant benefits by using them, and (2) To teach how running experiences can help a person live life more fully.
Training Plans – Training plans will be provided in 11-week blocks. The plans will include detailed instructions so that participants can use the plans effectively and use the plans and the workouts to prepare for race distances ranging from 5K to the marathon. Plans will also be provided for those who do not race but still want the support and encouragement of a running group.
Coached Workouts – Weekly coached workouts will be offered. Each workout will be planned so that runners receive the training benefits required to prepare for target races. In addition to the workout itself, instruction will be provided to help runners learn the fundamental concepts of training. Runners will have the option of meeting for workouts on Tuesday evening in Littlestown or Wednesday evening in Westminster. Coached workouts every third Saturday will be offered in Westminster. A complete schedule of coached workouts will be provided at the start of the season.
Flying Feet Race Series – The season will include three races for participants of this program at no additional cost. These races will be designed to assist with training goals, while helping participants practice the race tactics taught in training.
Flying Feet Remote Program – Flying Feet offers a virtual training program. For those participating in the remote program, Monday evening Zoom calls will be offered to provide workout instruction and to help runners learn key training and racing principles. These Zoom calls will be recorded so that the recordings can be viewed by those who cannot attend the calls. Participants of the remote program can run in Flying Feet races and may attend up to 5 coached workouts during the season.
Registration fees and deadlines – The fees below will be in effect until July 5th, when there will be a $10 increase.
· 22-week summer-fall registration - $170
· 11-week summer only registration - $90 (with option to join for the remaining 11-weeks of the season)
· 22-week remote program - $135
