The 2nd annual Foxtrot 5k is here! This race supports continued research into FOXG1 Syndrome, which is a rare neurological disorder caused by a mutation in the FOXG1 gene. This severe condition impacts brain development and function, and is characterized by seizures, inability to control body movements, lack of speech, and a host of accompanying medical conditions. While the spectrum of abilities depends on the exact genetic mutation, many of our children cannot sit unassisted, walk, talk, or orally eat. It is possible for parents to be carriers, but most cases of FOXG1 Syndrome are non-inherited and have no family history. There is no cure for FOXG1 Syndrome, but with medications, physical, occupational, and speech therapy as well as nutritional support, a stable quality of life can be achieved. Research into this condition is ongoing, and will hopefully- someday- produce a cure.

The Foxtrot 5k is unique because it takes place wherever you'd like to run, walk, dance, skip, jump, swim, or bike! You can complete it whenever is convenient for you, but we are setting aside June 1st as the official race day for 2019. This year will be slightly different in that participants who register by April 30th will receive a shirt and medal prior to race day, and can then share their race photos wearing their swag. Registration will remain open until June 1st, but only those who register by April 30th will receive a shirt and medal. Registration fees will go towards supporting FOXG1 Syndrome, with money being split between the International FOXG1 Foundation and the FOXG1 Research Foundation. There are important things being done by both of these organizations, and all of our children benefit from the work they are doing.
