Event Description

Splash For a Cure 5K is a family-friendly run/walk fundraiser for the Ishan Gala Foundation. IGF provides financial and emotional support to families in Virginia with a child fighting cancer. This 5K is usually held at ACAC located in Charlottesville, Virginia and is followed by a post-race party featuring food, crafts, and raffle. However, during these uncertain times, we made the decision to make the event virtual without the post-race party. 

Many of our fighting families were already facing financial hardship before Covid-19 and they need us now more than ever. Even though we can't be with our families in person, we have still been supporting them during these times of social distancing through financial aid, sending treats to celebrate milestones, and helping to keep the kids entertained while at home by sending fun activities.

About IGF:

The Ishan Gala Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit with a mission to be present in lives of children fighting cancer and their families to improve their quality of life during and after treatment. IGF was founded by Mayank and Sejal Gala after the loss of their 2 year old son, Ishan, to neuroblastoma in 2009. They witnessed the many hardships families faced and the lack of research for treatment for Neuroblastoma. They began by providing vital research grants to support research and helping families with financial burdens. In 2015, IGF began to switch its focus on strictly supporting families financially and emotionally.  
 
IGF fulfills its mission through various programs focused on easing financial stress, celebrating milestones in their lives, comforting during the bad days, and bringing moments of joy and fun into their lives during this extremely long, tough journey. We also help families during the holiday's through our Holiday Cheer Program.
 
From something as simple as delivering a smile to taking care of a month of bills …we are there for our families.
