On Sunday, October 25th, 2020, Temple Sinai of Middletown NY will be hosting the 1st Annual Benjamin A. Gilman 5K Memorial Run/Walk and Fun Run.
Congressman Benjamin A. Gilman was a member of Temple Sinai and a pillar in his hometown community of Middletown, NY. He was recognized by the World Peace Prize Awarding Council for being a champion of Human Rights.
This community-based event is meant to inspire unity and wellness through a sense of community, fitness, and advocacy for healthier lifestyles.
Our race day will be a public affair that includes a post-race brunch, race shirt, music, vendors, and awards ceremony for both runners and walkers. Everyone is encouraged to join and participate!
START TIME: Race Day is Sunday, October 25th, 2020 beginning with a Fun Run at 9:30 AM, then a 9:45 AM Start Time for 5K Walk, followed by 5K Run at 10:00 AM.
WHERE: Temple Sinai, 75 Highland Avenue Middletown, New York 10940. Start and Finish on Cantrell Avenue, between Temple Sinai and the Middletown YMCA.
RACE DAY REGISTRATION and RACE DAY PACKET PICK UP: Check in recommended between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Registration closes at 9:25 AM. Shirt size not guaranteed if not preregistered.
PREREGISTRATION and RACE DAY PACKET PICK UP: Online Preregistration ends Sunday, October 11th, 6:00 PM. Race packet pick up from 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM at the race venue on the morning of the event (this includes Bibs and T-Shirts). This is the only time/day for packet pick up. T-Shirt sizes are not guaranteed after On-line Preregistration closes.
COURSE: 5K or 3.1 Miles Fast, flat, 5K loop partially on road and on scenic paved walkways through Francher-Davidge Park. Goes from Middletown Temple Sinai to Francher-Davidge Park in Middletown, NY and back.
TROPHIES FOR RUNNERS: Trophies for top 3 runners in each gender group. ADDITIONAL AGE GROUP RUNNING AWARDS IN MALE/FEMALE CATEGORIES: Top three male/female Runners in 10 & Under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Up
TROPHIES FOR WALKERS: Trophies for top 3 walkers in each gender group. ADDITIONAL AGE GROUP WALKING AWARDS IN MALE/FEMALE CATEGORIES: Top three male/female Walkers in 10 & Under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Up
FINISHER RIBBONS FOR 1/2 mile FUN RUN (or WALK): Fun Run is not timed and is a flat ½ mile loop on pavement. This is free of charge and a starter's race for kids and adults. Fun Run is a great way to introduce yourself to the sport. Participants will receive a finisher ribbon at completion of 1/2 mile course and be entitled to a post-race brunch (just show your ribbon).
1/2 PRICE STUDENT RATE FOR 5K RUN AND WALK: Register as a student (must be 21 years of age or younger on race day) and receive a discount of 50% ($14.00). This includes T-shirt, Post Race Brunch, Awards, and entry to the Community Fair.
WATER STATION: 5K Water station near Mile 1 and 2 inside park.
Start: Cantrell Avenue – (Start the 5K) Miles 0 to.11
Left: Wallkill Avenue - Miles .12 to .35
Right: Lake Avenue to Francher-Davidge Park, continue on Lake Avenue through park and back out. Continue and back track on Lake Avenue. – Miles .36 to 2.74
Left on Walkill Avenue – Miles 2.75 to 2.97
Right onto Cantrell and to Finish. - Miles 2.98 to 3.1 (Finish the 5K)
DOGS: Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted within Francher-Davidge Park grounds and during race day event.
STROLLERS: Sorry, but due to the terrain of the 5K course around the park strollers are not welcomed. Strollers will only be welcomed on the ½ mile paved Fun Run/Walk.
POST RACE EVENT: Hosted by Temple Sinai of Middletown, NY. Includes a public affair with post-race brunch for 5K Runners, Walkers, and 1/2 mile finishers (show your finisher's ribbon or Race Bib), free race shirt for 5K Runners/Walkers (all others can purchase for $10.00 - limited availability on race day), music, vendors, free-giveaways, and awards ceremony for both walkers and runners. Everyone is encouraged to join!
COMMUNITY FAIR: The Benjamin A. Gilman Community Fair will offer opportunities to receive health and wellness literature, support, education, and networking possibilities from local and corporate agencies in the Hudson Valley. With the focus on strengthening community relationships, our vendors will be educating and arming individuals with valuable information.
