Event Description

The Race to the International Space Station

Test yourself over a 12 week period to race the distance to the International Space Station. Whether you try to get there quickly or just hope to make it, we hope you accept the challenge! 400km (248.5 miles) over 12 weeks requires one to average ~20.5 miles a week or 3 miles a day. Complete the challenge to earn a Space Race t-shirt and fun finisher medal!

Whether you are running, walking or hiking, we hope you take on the challenge to the International Space Station!

Why do we finish in November?

The International Space Station was first launched in November of 1998, but it didn’t host residents for a bit longer. Most notably the ISS had its first long term residents arrive on November 2, 2000. The ISS’s first role was to hopefully act as a laboratory, observatory and factory for providing transportation as a low earth staging base with hopes of future missions to the moon and beyond. A decade later it was given additional roles of hosting commercial, diplomatic and educational purposes.
